Inspired by Fall in Utah

One thing that I've come to love with living in Utah, is the Fall season. For some reason the crisp air and the bright colors erupting from the trees, inspires me to take time to relax and enjoy my surroundings.

I think what makes Utah so unique in the Fall is that I can leave my house and experience 3 different seasons within a half hour drive.

Like today, we went on a mountain adventure starting in the valley where it looks (and feels) like summer. As we headed into the canyon we were overwhelmed with the burst of fall colors painted on the trees. Then, as we neared the back of the canyon at 7,500 feet in elevation, the trees were bare and snow was starting to stick in areas that didn't see the sun.

This time of year also inspires me to write. And though I usually would insert one of my own poems at this point, I love how Elsie N. Brady captures the essence of Fall in the following poem.

Leaves
How silently they tumble down
And come to rest upon the ground
To lay a carpet, rich and rare,
Beneath the trees without a care,
Content to sleep, their work well done,
Colors gleaming in the sun.
At other times, they wildly fly
Until they nearly reach the sky.
Twisting, turning through the air
Till all the trees stand stark and bare.
Exhausted, drop to earth below
To wait, like children, for the snow.
