You may have noticed my Favorite links on the side of the blog. I'm not usually a commercial blogger. I never mention the name of the company I work for and I rarely do promotional type things. And some of my Favorite links are there for obvious reasons. Like Amazon, where we get a % of any purchase made through that link.
But other links you may not recognize. For example, Door43. Contrary to what you might have thought, this isn't an organization that has 43 doors ready for purchase.
Door 43 is an organization run by my brilliant brother-in-law (and that Hubby is a board member of), which is based off of the bible verse "Pray... that God may open to us a door for the Word." - Colossians 4:3. Get it? Not yet? Let me explain.
Door43 sees the need that the global church desperately needs discipleship resources in their 7,000 languages. At the same time, most discipleship resources (bible stories, sermons, etc.) are restricted by copyrights, so they cannot be legally translated, adapted and redistributed for effective use.
The solution? Door43. It's an open wiki to create unrestricted discipleship resources - free of charge and released under an open license, so that anyone, anywhere, in any language has the freedom to grow spiritually without hindrance.
The bonus? Since the global church doesn't have discipleship resources (yet), but they do have mobile phones, content on Door43 is specifically intended for use and distribution using mobile phones. Cool, huh?
But they need volunteers desperately to help with getting a lot of the content on the Door43 wiki.
In fact, Hubby recently helped create some of their Open Bible Stories for his final senior project (details to come about my recent college graduate...). It was super fun and easy. He just took different bible stories, paraphrased them in his own words and then uploaded it to the wiki. He then added non-copyrighted photos to the stories, which Door43 was able to obtain from a generous donor.
By the end of it all, Door43 will house these bible stories, so they can be read, seen through pictures and even be put to video! See an example of this with one of the first stories completed: The Compassionate Father.
How can you help?
- Volunteer for Door43 by creating new content to be uploaded to the wiki.
- Pray for Door43, and their parent organization Distant Shores Media.
- Tell people about Door43 and invite them to join the team. Whether it's through Facebook, Twitter, or chatting it up at the next BBQ - help them get the word out.
- Consider financially supporting their global efforts.
- Become of fan of Door43 on Facebook to keep updated on what the organization is doing
On a completely separate, but similar note. Recently Hubby needed to get his photo taken, as a board member, for the Distant Shores Media web site. He's not one to dress up, but this organization has a soft spot in his heart. So on a clear summer day, he put a nice blue dress shirt on and a dark blazer so that I could capture the perfect photo of him dressed up as an official board member. That's one good looking Hubby!
