We've been set out on a mission over the past few months - to have BB's nursery completed and ready to go in plenty of time before he comes home. Well with 3 weeks to go, our mission is complete. After the overwhelming generosity of family and friends, hitting up garage sales and making some major trips to our favorite baby stores, we now have a completed nursery that is ready for a special little boy to make his "man cave."
Here's the grand tour. I'll try to point out the key points of interest along the way.
The fun "Man Cave" sign was a touch of Hubby's decor-style as you enter the nursery. I'm most proud of how we were able to repurpose some bookshelves from our guest room, by painting them white. Add a few books from garage sales, along with hand-me-down toys in our bins and our little one will definitely stay entertained in this corner of his room.
The full view of the nursery from the door. We were fortunate to find some beautiful curtains (for a good price) that matched the circles of teal, brown and white that encompass the room.
Our little guy's crib. Again, you'll notice a little bit of Hubby's touch on the room with the Three Stooges wall hanging above the crib (it has teal in it - so it matches). :)
After seeing a friend make an amazing mobile for her little boy, I decided to try it myself. It ended up not only being a fun project, but saved us a lot of money on purchasing something to hang above the crib. Total cost: $5. Thanks, Dana for your inspiration and help with this idea.
Thanks to those that helped us pick out our bedding by voting on our blog poll, we ended up getting a great deal on this Short Latte set from Target.
A lot of effort went into finding the right changing table/dresser for this room, which we found at Ikea. It was such a new product that we had to go to the store after hours to have them take it down from the rafters, since they hadn't put it on the showroom floor yet.
Above the changing table, we installed some white shelves for a few of BB's things. We've started his collection for him, including an old-style radio bank (since both grandpa's have careers in radio), a few baseball things (we're hoping this little one love's baseball as much as his daddy), and if you look closely, you'll see the blue box on the left. Another one of Hubby's touches - a piece of the Dallas Cowboy's artificial turf from their old stadium.
I can't wait for the times where I'll be able to feed our little man and read to him before bed. We've already started his collection of books, and were sure to pick up a few of our favorites at garage sales this summer, including "Are You My Mother?," "If You Give a Pig A Pancake," and "The Pokey Little Puppy."
And of course, the closet. Last spring we added this closet into the nursery, and we're so thankful we did. Beyond holding BB's hanging clothes and bins of stuff, you'll notice another one of Hubby's additions to the room. Yes, those are boxes of diapers. My money saving Hubby found some amazing deals on Amazon.com, getting us set up with diapers as low as $0.07 a piece. Now let's just hope BB's a Pampers baby instead of needing Huggies or Luvs.
Next mission on our list: Baby Boy. Not that we're in any hurry to have him come yet. I mean, we still have 3 weeks left and the idea of becoming a parent is still a bit surreal. But with the nursery complete and our bags packed, we're physically ready. Now to mentally prepare for this life changing event....
